The Unisa Music Foundation will host the first South African Performing Arts Health Symposium on the Unisa main campus in Pretoria. The symposium will include research presentations and panel discussions on performing arts health. Panel and round table discussions will focus on medical problems affecting performing artists (primarily musicians and dancers) in South Africa.
Part of the symposium will be dedicated to the establishment of the South African Performing Arts Health Association. Keynote speakers include Prof Kris Chesky (USA) a pioneer of the field of Performing Arts Health and current Director of the Texas Centre for Performing Arts Health and Prof Karendra Devroop (SA) one of South Africa’s leading researchers in the field of Performing Arts Health and current Director of the Unisa Music Directorate.
